One hour with the mountain gorillas
Gorilla trekking is the most sought-after wildlife experience in East Africa. You hike into high-altitude rainforest with rangers, and spend one hour with a habituated gorilla family. From Nairobi we organise trips to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.
Uganda or Rwanda?
Uganda — Bwindi
Thick, steep rainforest with several habituated families. Usually the more affordable permit and a longer trek day. Reached by road from Kenya via western Uganda, or by a short flight.
Rwanda — Volcanoes
Bamboo and volcano slopes, reached from Kigali. Often a shorter drive from the airport to the park, which suits travellers with fewer days.
A typical 4-day trek
Day 1 — Travel to the forest
Fly or drive from Nairobi to Entebbe or Kigali, then on to the park area for the night.
Day 2 — The trek
Briefing at dawn, then trek with rangers to your assigned gorilla family. One hour with the gorillas, then back to the lodge.
Day 3 — Community or second trek
A community visit, a golden monkey trek or a relaxed day at the lodge.
Day 4 — Return
Drive or fly back toward Nairobi or your onward destination.
